Planning Basics and How They Can Help Your Wedding Day

Your wedding day is months, maybe even years away. You’ve got tons of time in the world. Right now, you can put your feet up, make it through a few seasons of The Office before they take it off of Netflix and just relax. You keep relaxing until a week beforehand, when you realize there are so many things that have to be done. Everything falls on your shoulders and you are rushing and not sleeping until three days after your wedding. You didn’t get to enjoy any of it. You were too busy thinking about all the planning that you didn’t do in between Michael Scott jokes. Let’s makes this not be you. Here are the Planning Basics and How They Can Help Your Wedding Day

Planning Basics and How They Can Help Your Wedding Day

Mission

It is really easy to get sucked into the planning of a wedding. There are so many minute details that take your attention and each one seems pressing at the time. Not only that, but you have your family and friends telling you what to do. One of your bridesmaids doesn’t like the color you chose. A parent is telling you that your table decorations look gaudy. All this “feedback” gets in the way of actually planning your wedding. That’s where having a mission for your wedding comes in handy. Now, 2211, are you talking about a mission statement? Like a business? Yes, we are! It may seem weird, but one unifying sentence will help you to ensure you are always going the right way. What is most important to you on the wedding day? That’s where you’ll keep your sights while everyone is giving you “feedback” on the outside.

Planning Basics and How They Can Help Your Wedding Day
Afton and Caleb used the planning basics to take this sick shot

Now, to find your mission, you need to know your story. A lot of times, the mission is simply to celebrate your love with your friends and family. Knowing this, helps make the small things even smaller. The table decoration aren’t as important, as long as everyone has fun at the dance, so you’ll work on the mix for the dance instead of the table decorations. Sometimes the look is more important to a couple, so those table decorations are necessary to think about. Finding your couple story and what you want to do on your wedding day in a nice easy sentence or paragraph will help you to declutter the world around you and focus on what is important to you.

Examples:

We want to ensure our friends and family have a good time celebrating our love.

To quickly run through a ceremony and save tons of time for dancing.

To have an Instagram influencer-worthy wedding that people put up on Pinterest as a great wedding look.

Wedding Planning Basics

Next comes the basics of a wedding. Hannah and I are currently in the process of getting married and we have dealt with couples during the planning phases of their big days. We know what goes into the planning. Here are a few basics that need to be checked off your list. These will seem relatively simple, but we’re writing these, because we’ve seen them be forgotten until the last day.

Location

Relatively simple and usually the first thing that couples look for. Ensure you find a location that fits into your mission. You don’t want to be all about the dancing and not book a venue that has no dance floor space. That will put a damper on things pretty quickly.

Wedding Planning Basics and location
Location is key when it comes to planning

Colors and Clothing

Especially those going for a look that stands out. You want to get colors that represent you as a couple, but that will also look good when people are inundated with it at your wedding. Neon green might be funny in the moment, but looking at it all day may give people some headaches if they aren’t prepared for it.

Decorations

This is one we see get left until the last second, or given to a parent. Decorations can make or break a wedding. Even if the look isn’t your thing, it is much better to dance or celebrate love in a room filled with pictures of the couple, rather than a blank room.

Guest List and Invitations

We could go through the basics here. Send your Save the Dates out to only people on your guest list and 6 to 8 months ahead of time. Stuff like that, but every wedding website has those facts. Instead, this is where your mission will come in real handy. Everyone has an opinion on who should or should not be at your wedding. Look back to your mission statement when making the list and ensure the people that come are those you want there. Your influencer friends for the look. Your most beloved family if they are there for celebration.

The day

Planning a day can be much harder for couples, because it is much more abstract. You can taste the food and see the tablecloths, but it’s impossible to imagine exactly how a day will go, but it’s important. This will not only ensure that you don’t forget anything you want to do on your special day, but will let your vendors know exactly what to do. They want to help your wedding be a success just as much as you want it to be.

Project Management

Uh oh, 2211 is back on the business train. Now we’re talking project management. A lot of people think that project management is meant for software companies that need to roll out their next feature. It definitely is for that, but it can also be something that will help you plan for your big day. There are tons of free software out there. Apps as simple as a To Do List that you can share with those that need to know all the way to Kanban boards. You may not know what these things are, but if you look into them, you will see that they help you organize your to do list into categories, such as to do, done, and awaiting on responses from others.

Project management has been tried and true in business. Most companies would shrivel and die if it weren’t for their project managers. Because of this, there are tons of helpful resources online to help project managers. Look into these for yourself, especially if the planning gives you anxiety. These will help you to ensure nothing gets swept under the rug in the hustle and bustle of the next few months. Also you will be able to see all your to do items in one easy chart, which will help you to stick to you mission.

What Happens if You Don’t Plan?

We talked about it in the first paragraph, but that mostly dealt with the burdens of procrastination. Most people have fallen into the procrastination hole, heck, even we have. You set off with all the right intentions, but then it all just falls to the side in favor of work, life, and every little thing in between. The best way to combat procrastination is not only to plan, but to give yourself deadlines. You know that most things will be due about a month before the wedding, but why not get a few things done earlier to make that month before the wedding deadline a little easier. Otherwise, you will feel the stress bare down on you. The last thing a couple needs on their wedding day is more stress.

We are photography and videpography experts, but a lot of times, we’ve been left out of the planning. As a result, there are shots that the couple wants that don’t get taken, because neither side planned together. We have constructed a list of things to think about when it comes to photography and videography. Planning with your vendors will ensure you don’t miss a picture of your family that made it all the way. Ensure that your videos and phots fit into the mission that you created for yourself. Don’t forget to plan and don’t forget to include your vendors in the planning. Especially not the photographer and videographer, but we are biased.

Ending Thoughts

So, planning basics and how they can help your wedding day is just your starting point. Get out there and talk with couples that have recently gotten married. Talk with people you know and trust who are project managers in their jobs. Or book us and we will talk with you about all the planning you need to ensure your wedding day is as stress free as it can be. Don’t procrastinate. Don’t forget about the things you need. Instead follow the planning basics and how they can help your wedding day.

Everyone has a Wedding Story

Stories surround us each and every single day. The stories on the news can be disheartening and informative. The stories your friends tell you can help you to become closer and understand each other better. Even billboards are telling us stories as we pass by them quickly on the highway. Everywhere there is a story. On top of that, everyone has a story. Everyone has something that makes them unique. We at 2211 not only believe this, but we live this. What is your story? How do you find your story? We’ll help. Everyone has a Wedding Story.

Everyone has a Wedding Story

How to Find Your Wedding Story

Think of the last time something happened to you that was story worthy. If this comes easy or hard to you, generally whatever you think of, during the event, you were not thinking that a story was going to come from this. You were looking to go into the next step. Thinking about what you’re going to eat for lunch. The story though, is always happening, regardless of whether you are being an active participant in it or not. And you can find what your story it by attempting to take a look at yourself from the outside in.

Writing your story down is a simple tactic. We were all taught how to do this when growing up. We would make stories in kindergarten classes and present them. If you ever did show and tell, you had to tell the story of the thing you brought to class. We would write these things down to help us tell the story better. By writing down, or at least attempting to write down your story will help you immensely. This can be in the form of a journal. One of those journals that couples fill out with questions can be really helpful. They even have apps to record one second a day to help tell your story. Just write down what’s going on each day and eventually a story will come into fruition. As we said earlier, stories happen, regardless of whether you are actively participating or not.

Everyone has a story and every wedding has one, too.
Even the location pertains to your story

Wedding Stories

Love is the main theme when it comes to most weddings. The celebration of love between the couple as they kiss and walk down the aisle for the first time as a married couple. The whole day is filled with the story of this couple and who they choose to have around them. The venue, the table settings, even the DJ all play a part in that story. This is why figuring out your story is so important. It can make planning the wedding even easier. You can find vendors that will fit into your story. Even choosing the food becomes easier when you find your story.

The hard part of wedding stories is that it is a combination of two personalities into one story. Each person has their own story. Along the timeline of their story, they find another person who also has their own story. Now they take those two stories and hold them together with the glue of love. As we find that story, we do it with another person by our side. We find what makes the two of us compatible. We find the word through our adventures together. The date at an Italian restaurant can be a story. The trip to Cancun is a story. Even the boring stuff can be a story. Take all of these things into effect when creating your story.

Telling Others Your Story

Next comes the hardest part of finding your story, telling it to others. Believe us when we say that telling people your own story can be hard. It can feel a combination of arrogant, embarrassing, and personal. How does one get past those feelings? It can be difficult, but each and every time you do it, it gets easier. The arrogance goes away once you start to entertain people. The embarrassment too. But that path to getting to entertaining can be hard. That’s where you can get other people to help. We are going to plug 2211 here. You knew it would happen.

We are experts in storytelling, especially through a lens. Davis makes films in his free time. Hannah takes beautiful landscape photography in efforts to preserve nature. We tell stories all the time and ones that aren’t our own. We have a knack for telling a story and we know how to make it good and entertaining. We also love to help people find their story. We know that you want to tell your story and we want to tell it, so look at our packages and hit us up today. We are just waiting to tell your story.

Ending Thoughts

You have a story and it deserves to be told. You can figure it out. You can write it down, work with your partner to discover what it means, or simply just think about it more and more. In the end, your story is so uniquely you. You need to tell your story, especially on your wedding day. We at 2211 Media can help. So, if you are looking for your story to be told, check out our packages and tell your story the best way you can.

What’s the Best Way to Remember Your Wedding Day?

Your wedding has just happened. The guests are buzzing. Love is in the air. That magic feeling is all around you and your partner, the wedding party, and all the attendees. They can’t wait to bring this feeling out into the world. Let everyone enjoy it with them. They still have a few days or maybe even a few weeks off until they see those they want to talk with. They finally see them and they can’t remember that feeling anymore. Life has happened in between now and then and it’s gone from the memory. They remember the big parts, but they’ve forgotten about the small stuff, no matter how hard they tried to remember. Then they get their photos. The feelings are all back again, as if magically printed into the scenes on the glossy paper. What’s the best way to remember your wedding day? Photos. That’s the answer.

What’s the Best Way to Remember Your Wedding Day?

What's the best way to remember your wedding? Photos.
This was in front of a crowd of people, but the right photographer will make you feel comfortable, no matter what.

Capture the Moment

Wedding Days are hectic. The day is filled with people you haven’t seen in a long time and those that you see all the time. They are all mixed together into one space. They are all there to celebrate you and your love. But, they all have different ways of doing that. You’ve got a cousin that wants to show off their dance moves on the floor. You great aunt wants to tell you the story of her wedding and how this reminded her of that. Your pesky little brother just wants to pull pranks, but not on your watch. There is just way too much going on, and we haven’t even touched the ceremony, the food, and the speeches. So many speeches.

With all of this craziness, it can be really easy to miss something. Even if you just go to the bathroom for a second, you could miss a great moment. That’s where the photographer comes in. They capture those moments, so you don’t have to be there for everything. We want to make your day be remembered. Forgetting can be the worst thing. We know that you can’t be everywhere at once. We also know that with the number of events happening, it’s darn near impossible to remember it all. That’s why the photos are the best way to remember the wedding. They capture the emotion as they are happening and you can enjoy it from the day you receive the photos to the end of eternity.

Why a Professional Photographer, Though?

Lots of people know how to take a photo. Everyone has a fairly decent camera in their pocket. We’ve seen plenty of weddings go with the no photographer route, thinking their friends and family will get the right pictures for them. There’s nothing wrong with this thinking, but there is a lot that goes into the photography that many don’t realize. The framing and composition of the photo is one thing. Ensuring they capture the emotion is another. Go to Instagram and look at your most active non-photographer friend’s page. You get to see some great stuff. Now, look for a professional photographer’s page. It’s astounding the difference. The way the photos look is beyond what you would imagine, even if it is something you’ve seen time and time again.

If you want to ensure that your photos don’t look like a shaky snapchat pic with a nasty looking filter, it’s important to go with a professional photographer. They have an obligation to getting you the best pictures. They want you to like what you see, because they want to tell your story. A photographer wants you to sing their praises to your newly engaged friends, as well. They also have the experience required to get those good-looking moments. Nothing against your friend’s Instagram page, but photography takes a ton of work that doesn’t cross the mind of a lot of influencer on social media.

These tow will remember their wedding day.

Why are Photographers so Expensive?

We talked about it a little in the last section, with the experience and obligation, but let’s jump into it here. Photographers can be expensive. As you do your research, you will likely find the good ones can be up to $5000, while even smaller inexperienced photographers still cost over $1000. It can seem like too much. The parts of photography that don’t seem so flashy are the reasons for the prices. It is very hard to get a photo to look good right out of the camera. There is a ton of work that goes into each photo before you get to see it. The photographer has experience here, as well. Ensuring the photo looks as close to the human eye image we saw on the actual wedding day.

We also need to pay for the parts that go into photography. The camera body and lenses. The flashes and extra batteries. They all incur a cost initially and maintaining them is not cheap, either. Keeping these things in mind, the price can seem a little less shocking. There are tons of stories of cheap photographers doing a poor job. You can’t redo the day, so sometimes it’s better to put up with the price, knowing that in a year or even fifty, you will thank yourself. You’ll know that the answer to “What’s the best way to remember your wedding day?” is Photos.

How to Save Money

Even though we talked about price, that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to still save money while getting quality. The first mistake a lot of couples make is to book the photographer for the whole day, when they really only need them for the ceremony and speeches. Work with your partner to find what is necessary for your photos before you look for booking. Sometimes a half day is more than enough for your wedding day and can be a huge cost saver.

Booking together with videography is also an option, especially with 2211 Media. We have photography and videography services, both of which will help you remember your wedding day in all its emotional glory. Booking together can lower the cost of the photography and get you everything you need without sacrificing on the quality. Look to our Packages for some options that work well with your wedding day.

Photographer and her camera. That's a way to remember.
If we haven’t convinced you, take a look at how cute Hannah is. That should work.

So, What’s the Best Way to Remember Your Wedding Day?

By now, you’ve got it. Don’t skimp on the photographer, because everyone holds onto their photos much longer than the initial year of their wedding. These photos will make it through each move the two of you go through. Make it through most events that happen in your life. And no matter what is happening in your life, you can look back on these photos and smile, remembering the magical feeling of your wedding day. So, Photographs is the answer to what’s the best way to remember your wedding.

A Funny Guide to Dances at Your Wedding

Dad and Daughter Dance

A Funny Guide to Dances at Your Wedding

The worst or best part of any wedding is the dancing. You get to know just how drunk your uncle really is. You get to see who took some dance classes at some point in their lives and those who know how to step-touch really well. There is not a lot of thought put into the dances. Some people just simply tell their DJ to play the hits. We’re here to give you some guidance based on our experience. Here’s A Funny Guide to Dances at Your Wedding.

A Funny Guide to Dances at Your Wedding

Dad and Daughter Dance
The wedding dance can be the best part of the night.

Dances with Instructions.

The Cupid Shuffle. The Cha-Cha Slide. These songs tell us exactly what to do. Stomp Our feet. Cha Cha real smooth (Whatever that means). For those of us that are prone to poor dancing, these songs can be a lifesaver. Your cousin can show everyone just how good they are at instructions. Your aunt can add some flair by moving her hands and arms in a pattern while she follows the instructions with her feet. No one will have to look too embarrassing. On the other hand, however, those that like to impress won’t really have the chance with these songs. So if you have a family or group of friends that are good at dancing, it may be best to skip these songs.

Chicken Dance

The chicken dance gets its own paragraph for this one. A long time ago, someone invented the accordion. Largely, this was thought to be a bad idea, with only polka people and Weird Al enjoying it. Then someone invented the Chicken Dance and we all finally understood why people were having such a good time while doing a polka. You get to link arms and fling people around. The part where you pretend to be a chicken is so much fun. Finally, the accordion had widespread appeal. There are even secret lyrics to this timeless song. Everyone has a different version of the lyrics, but mostly, the lyrics are about how bad ducks are. So if you don’t like those floating birds that eat the bread you throw for them in the water, opt to have the chicken dance in your wedding dance mix.

A Funny Guide to Dances at Your Wedding
There’s even a Wiki How page on the Chicken Dance

Country Music

We do not condone country music. We need to get that out there first. Though Hannah is from Wisconsin and Davis is from North Dakota, two of the most country music playing states in the union, we are not the biggest fans. We don’t want to make anyone feel bad, though, for liking it. And it’s because of that why you need to include a few country songs in your wedding day mix. The cousins from out of town who each have a pickup truck will thank you. The cousins from in town with the weirdly clean pickup trucks that have never hauled anything will also enjoy the songs. Also, all the dances for country songs work perfectly with step-touches like we talked about before. These songs can be a win-win and will be a welcome break back to the bar for those that would rather not.

Slow Dances

We get asked a lot, “How many slow dances songs should we have in our mix?” This question can be hard, because the math is getting more and more difficult for this question. You obviously want a few. That’s a given. You gotta have the one where you get everyone to leave who has been married less than 10 years and so on. That way we can all cheer for people who have been married the longest. But you also want slow dance songs for your single friends. It’s hard to talk to people while those heavy bass dance beats are going off, so the slow dance will help your single friends ask that person they’ve been talking to for a dance. You’ll definitely get invited to their wedding and that’s at least a free meal right there. So, in our opinion, the more slow dances, the better.

Overall

Everyone will be telling you what songs to play. The important thing, too, is that you won’t always make everyone happy with each song. In the end, make sure you love the songs you’re going to play. Slow dances, rave music, country songs. Play them all if you like them. It’s all your decision, because it is your day. But if you want to remember the way your aunt moved her hands to the Chicken Dance. Or if you can’t stop laughing at your cousin who thought they could break dance, then book 2211 media to capture all of that for your memory.

5 Ways to avoid a fight between your videographer and photographer

5 Ways to avoid a fight between your videographer and photographer

Each wedding website has an explanation of problems that could happen. Here’s one. Here’s another. We won’t regale you with every problem that could happen, but we will answer this one question for you. What if my photographer and videographer get into a fight? On your big day, you don’t want to have to babysit two artists as they complain about one another getting into their shots. They both want you to sing their praises, but when they get in each other’s way, we lose that. Here’s our 5 ways to avoid a fight between your videographer and photographer.

Personality Tests

Your photographer and videographer will likely have some big personalities. They are artists who have to constantly self-promote. Because of that, they may have personalities that are not compatible. Websites like e-Harmony and OKCupid have been utilizing personality tests to match people for years and they have yielded some major results. You may not have the algorithms they have, but you can make your own. Find out their likes and dislikes. Test them on their happiness and other emotions. Have them write an essay about their perfect day. Compare the two and see if you have a match and an avoidance of a nasty vendor fight on your wedding day.

Pro-Tip: If you run out of time and don’t have the ability to perform these tests, or you’re just looking for something easier, have them tell you their zodiac signs. We know that a Taurus will never get along with a Leo and so forth. This can be an easy way to get this done quickly and doesn’t include an essay.

Zodiac Signs
We won’t tell you which one is the best, but Pisces and Libra look pretty good.

Hire a Mediator

Mediators have been through some of the worst fights and have come out of it with so much experience. Experience that will help your vendors avoid a fight. They’ve really been through the worst of humanity, so getting in each other’s shots will be nothing for them. This, of course, will force you to need to schedule another vendor for your wedding day, but this one might be good. They will be able to help you along the way with more than just your photographer and videographer. Fights between the DJ and the caterer solved! No more bridesmaid squabbles. It almost feels like more weddings should have a mediator present. Or maybe that’s what the wedding planner is?

Marriage Story
They probably didn’t follow the 5 ways to avoid a fight between your videographer and photographer.

Have them Meet Beforehand

You will always have a chance to meet with your photographer and videographer before your wedding. If you aren’t, then you have a whole other problem on your hands. Why not try to schedule them both for the same date? That way they both can meet, and you can get them to talk like some sort of matchmaker for vendors. The three of you, or possibly more, can chat over a drink and appetizers. Of course, you will need to coordinate schedules, and if they don’t work out, you will likely have to pick one and if the movie Sophie’s Choice taught us anything, it’s that choices can be hard, although this choice is much easier than hers.

Find Cordial People You Agree With

One of the most difficult parts of any wedding is finding people that are compatible with you. You want a photographer that will not only understand your family but take photos that highlight their personalities. You want a videographer with a cinematic eye, but who also gets your story. These are the things to look for and can be incredibly hard when it comes to booking a vendor. To get both of these things can be darn near impossible. But if you are able to secure these two people and they are incredibly compatible with you and your partner, then it is likely that they will be compatible with each other. Do this task and you won’t have to worry. Although you might have to worry about them falling in love or something while at your wedding. And there’s nothing worse than an unplanned engagement at your wedding.

Hire a company that has both

Most companies are comprised of people that barely know each other but have likely been able to work together to at least make it through the day. Some companies have problems, but that’s where HR comes in. Even easier than those companies are teams of people that come together to make something great. We’ve seen these models work with companies like Google and Apple. They took people that work well together and had them make something. We at 2211 Media have done the same thing. Hannah and Davis have gotten together, first in love, then secondly as a business. We have tested our relationship and know that our fights will not happen on your wedding day. We plan together to ensure we both get the best shots. Cordially, we talk with each other to know what’s going on. Heck, we even know what love feels like and can guarantee we capture it well. All without even an inkling of a fight.

Conclusion

All in all, the wedding day is a stressful day for everyone, even the vendors. There’s a lot riding on this day and it’s important to do everything right, so you can look back on the day and smile. Look at your photographs that show your love. Watch the video and show it off to your friends. You want it all to be perfect and a fight is definitely going to get in the way. Follows these 5 ways to avoid a fight between your videographer and photographer and this will happen. We especially like tip #5.

Why You Need Videography on Your Wedding Day

Groom holding Bride's Dress

We all know the old wedding videos. A camera with a mic tethered to it. The videographer would go table by table asking people to say something nice to the couple. The video would look jerky, the sayings would all be the same, and the people were almost unrecognizable. A lot of times it was just your uncle who had the camera. Because of these events, a lot of people have shunned videography from their weddings in either attempts to save money or because they don’t see the benefit. Well, we’re here to tell you why you need videography on your wedding day.

Why You Need Videography on Your Wedding Day

The talk of the town

When was the last time that a friend sent you a video they thought was great? For a lot of us, it was very recently. Nowadays, video has become an incredibly accessible medium, much easier than the days of the VCR. Because of this, the video of your wedding is a must. People pass around YouTube clips and TikToks faster than a VCR could rewind a tape. And each of us can hold that technology in our pocket. Once again, another downside to the VCR. No portability. If you want people to see your wedding, see how beautiful it is, you not only want videography, but you need it. If you still need convincing, here’s an article of people praising why you need videography for your wedding day.

Dominique and Anthony let us know that the video was their favorite part of their wedding day.

All the platforms for videos

Video ha become more a part of the internet than we could have ever imagined even just 10 years ago. Everyone has a Facebook page with video capability. YouTube, Instagram, Vimeo, TikTok, even Snapchat. Almost 5 billion YouTube videos are watched daily. You don’t want to be left in the dust when it comes to your wedding day. People will be able to see your video on one of the many platforms you have on your phone. You can make your enemies jealous. Make you friends inspired for their own wedding days. Even make total strangers realize just what they need to put on the perfect wedding day. Your video can do all of that.

My big fat Greek wedding and why you need videography on your wedding day.

Movies

The Oscars are coming up soon. We wrote this article before the nominations, but it will be posted afterwards, so we’re guessing that some really good movies made the cut. Or at least we’re hoping. For those reading in the future, the Golden Globes of 2020 missed the mark with not nominating any women led movies for best pictures (but we digress). We know that movies surround us and are a large part of our culture. Everyone has multiple streaming apps that each have thousands of movies and TV shows on them. If you want to openly go against the culture we live in today, a video is not necessary. We as a culture just understand this medium, so to skip it is to skip out on your friends and family being able to openly enjoy your love for more than just your wedding day.

Memories

Let’s not forget about you in this article, as well. Very few people have a perfect memory. We’ve seen videos of the World Memory Championships and have been absolutely astounded. We know we can’t do that, but you still want to remember one of the best days of your life. All the emotions of the day. Every event that happened that will make you laugh, cry, and experience it all over again. Video does this for us. The events held in pristine beauty, remembered better than your mind has the ability to remember. You need not worry all day of your wedding about ensuring you remember everything. There are way too many things going on. Let the video do the remembering for you. Have the day to live in the present while the video allows future you to live in the past.

Overall

Ferris Bueller said it best. “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Don’t miss anything on your wedding day. Live in the present. Celebrate your love. And let us capture it for you. We love to tell stories and your story is exactly the one we want to tell. Book us now, or risk forgetting your own story on the honeymoon.

7 Reasons Why You Should Consider a Winter Wedding in Minnesota

7 Reasons Why You Should Consider a Winter Wedding in Minnesota

Winter is in full swing now and it will be until at least April. With winter being such a big part of this harsh state that we live in, we wanted to come up with ways you can make it better. We know all the lists of great winter activities. In fact, Davis likes the Winter Olympics more than the summer ones, but that’s because he came from basically Canada (Fargo). So, in spite of a snowball fights between the groom side and the bride side, or having Parson Brown the snowman marrying you later, we’ve devised this list. Here’s 7 reasons why you should consider a winter wedding in Minnesota.

Cold = No Sweat

One of the worst things that can happen to a person on their wedding day is pit stains. With all the layers we wear and the 100+ degree days of July and August, these faux pas can be almost impossible to avoid. Instead of buying more deodorant than a criminal about to take a lie detector test, do your wedding in the middle of winter. The cold of winter in Minnesota has very few upsides, but not sweating is definitely one of them.

The layers will help to keep you warm and you can use them to add more nuance to your outfits. Those hand warmers that fancy people wear can be a great accessory (I’m being told they are called muffs). Go ahead and add layers, because if you need a cool down you simply will have to crack a window in the reception hall or church. Sweating has ruined weddings. From the hair being messed up, to the groom looking like he went to the dance floor before the ceremony, to the endless pit stains. Winter weddings will relieve that part of your worries.

Cheaper

Hannah and I are having our wedding in the middle of December and the savings we got on the venue alone made it worth it. A lot of venues need something to fill their spots in the winter months. Because of that, they have drastically lowered their prices. A lot of couples have a location in mind right when the engagement ring slide onto the finger. Those locations can be packed from April to November, but they tend to have availability in the winter. This is a secret that we discovered and are telling you now. The price tags of venues can cause such a sticker shock that Las Vegas chapels start to sound enticing. Instead, have the wedding of your dreams with the price of your dreams, as well.

Snow!

You’ve seen it on your Facebook and Instagram feeds after a friend of yours gets married. The greenery and trees that surround couples on their big days. The green can be such a beautiful backdrop for photos and video, but has also been done before. The snow can add for a whole new backdrop. Snow falling is even prettier, but it’s hard to plan the weather in the way you want it. A lot of weddings have black as a primary color. Snow is a beautiful contrast to that and can really make any darker color you have pop even harder. Plus you don’t have to worry about your wedding being outdoors or indoors. Snow is really a negative a lot of times in Minnesota, but here’s at least one positive outside of snow days.

Unique

Hinted at in the last paragraph, but hitting it harder here. A lot of weddings have looked the same from 1945 to 2020. Not a lot of variety and the pictures and videos tend to show that. There are billions of people on this earth, each with their own personality. When two individual personalities come together, they make their own personalities as a couple. For all these weddings to look the same shows that people don’t try to make things fit their personalities. They simply just do what everyone else does. While winter may not exactly show off your personality, we know your warmer than that, it will be a way to show off where you come from. Minnesota people are caring, a little passive aggressive, and can really make it through anything once they have a few winters under their belts.

Family Holidays

Families get together over the holidays. Sometimes a family member can’t make it and it’s hard to not have them there. Your cousin that you haven’t seen for a while has to miss their fourth Christmas in a row, because they are going to their SO’s Christmas. With a wedding happening around a holiday, all of this can be avoided. Your family members want to be around you to celebrate your love. Now they have a reason to not only come to your wedding, but also not miss your family’s holiday plans. It’s a win-win.

Break it Up

Friends are family members that we get to choose. We love to have them around and we want them all to be at our wedding. You also want to be able to celebrate your friends’ weddings and with planning and limited space available at certain venues, it can be almost impossible to not schedule your day on your friend’s day. By planning a winter wedding, you ensure that no one will have the excuse of missing your wedding for a different wedding. And you’ll be able to make all of your friends’ weddings that didn’t read this article and stuck with a summer/fall wedding. Also, you get a break between your wedding and the next one of your friends, so you get to be the newly weds for longer in your friend group.

Minnesota

That’s one beautiful state right there.

Minnesota is a beautiful place. The parks and lakes just in Minneapolis are gorgeous on their own and they pale in comparison to the lakes in the north along with all its animals and nature. We are as big a part of Minnesota as it is of us. We love to tell out of towners just which little town we came from and just how far that little town is away from a slightly larger town that they may have heard of? No? Well, that’s okay. Minnesota is known for its winters and we are a part of those winters too. To completely skip a 6 month period (Yes, winters last that long here) we would be skipping a part of ourselves. So go ahead, plan that winter wedding. And when someone asks you why you planned a winter wedding, you send them to this article on 7 reasons why you should consider a winter wedding in Minnesota
