The Cinematic Wedding Look

The Cinematic Wedding Look

Movies are everywhere in our culture. At the writing of this, everyone is a buzz about the Oscars. You would think that our pick would be for Marriage Story, but Davis’ favorite movie so far is Parasite, but there’s almost no romantic story lines in that movie. Cinematic looks are everything. Each movie you see, or at least good movies, look like they should be up on that big screen. Not many people tell you this, but your video can look that way too. You want a video that looks like it should be up on the big screen. You want a cinematic wedding video.

The Cinematic Wedding Look

Film has a very specific look to it. We could get into the logistics of it, but really that’s our job to understand how it works. It is your job to enjoy it and want to see it. The film look is something that can be hard to attain. Without going with a professional videographer for your wedding, it can be almost impossible. It’s even hard to get on an iPhone camera. There have been movies shot with iPhone cameras and we’ve all seen the commercials about how this picture was shot on an iPhone. The fact of the matter is that isn’t that easy. A lot of work needs to go into the film look.

The film look is important for your story. When people sit down to see a movie, they see that film look and know they are in for a story. They know the next however many minutes will be filled with a story that they hope to be interested in. We as a society are used to the film look representing this. It has become something we look forward to. In order for your story to be told to it’s fullest, you will want that cinematic look, as well. Any wedding has the ability to have a cinematic wedding look. It’s all about the deliberateness of the shots. And to get that, you need to hire the right videographer

The Cinematic Wedding Look

Wedding Videos

There are a ton of different types of wedding videos. We are talking about the cinematic wedding videos earlier, but there are many more. A documentary wedding video will tell the story similarly to a documentary. Taking note of each event as they happen and letting the viewer relive them as they happened. Not a ton of funny business happening here, but that’s what couples want from time to time. They are even stylized videos designed to look like specific genres. Anything from a black and white movie to a new age action film. A skilled videographer can do it all. But how can you tell your videographer exactly what you’re looking for?

It is important to come into the conversation with your videographer knowing your story. If you’re not sure of it, look at this past post of ours. Once you have that down, a skilled videographer will be able to find a style with you that fits your story. You don’t want a dark and moody video if your story is all about happiness. Similarly, you don’t want to be shown smiling the whole time when the look you are going for is moodier and more romantic. There are tons of things to think about. An expert videographer can help you with whatever you need.

How to Tell Your Videographer What You Want

Videographer for the cinematic wedding look
Here’s our videographer. He likes to have too much fun, sometimes.

If you’re going for the cinematic look, it is important to let your videographer know that. They will go into the wedding and the day with the knowledge of what to look for. A lot of videographers don’t have experience creating the film look. They don’t know what goes into it, they just look for ways to shoot the event as it happens. That’s documentary filmmaking like we talked about earlier. It is a viable option, but maybe not what you’re looking for in your story.

Come with a few favorite movies that you think are similar to your story. If you have a very romantic love, come with movies like Moonstruck or The Notebook. If your love is founded on laughter, don’t be afraid to compare it to When Harry Met Sally. We’ve even seen stories of couples that are closer to Fast and Furious than anything else. By giving the videographer ideas of the types of movies and TV shows that you like, you will give them something to replicate with your day. We’ve got a friend requesting a The Office style wedding video. We are really excited for her to get married and try it out.

Ending Thoughts

See yourself on the big screen. Know that you deserve it. Find a videographer that does exactly that for you. One that will tell your story well and make you a video worthy of it. This video will be around for a while and one that you will show to those around you. The last thing you want to do it show them something that doesn’t represent you both as a couple. We at 2211 specialize in telling your story. Get your videographer now. Book the photographer too for special pricing

Everyone has a Wedding Story

Stories surround us each and every single day. The stories on the news can be disheartening and informative. The stories your friends tell you can help you to become closer and understand each other better. Even billboards are telling us stories as we pass by them quickly on the highway. Everywhere there is a story. On top of that, everyone has a story. Everyone has something that makes them unique. We at 2211 not only believe this, but we live this. What is your story? How do you find your story? We’ll help. Everyone has a Wedding Story.

Everyone has a Wedding Story

How to Find Your Wedding Story

Think of the last time something happened to you that was story worthy. If this comes easy or hard to you, generally whatever you think of, during the event, you were not thinking that a story was going to come from this. You were looking to go into the next step. Thinking about what you’re going to eat for lunch. The story though, is always happening, regardless of whether you are being an active participant in it or not. And you can find what your story it by attempting to take a look at yourself from the outside in.

Writing your story down is a simple tactic. We were all taught how to do this when growing up. We would make stories in kindergarten classes and present them. If you ever did show and tell, you had to tell the story of the thing you brought to class. We would write these things down to help us tell the story better. By writing down, or at least attempting to write down your story will help you immensely. This can be in the form of a journal. One of those journals that couples fill out with questions can be really helpful. They even have apps to record one second a day to help tell your story. Just write down what’s going on each day and eventually a story will come into fruition. As we said earlier, stories happen, regardless of whether you are actively participating or not.

Everyone has a story and every wedding has one, too.
Even the location pertains to your story

Wedding Stories

Love is the main theme when it comes to most weddings. The celebration of love between the couple as they kiss and walk down the aisle for the first time as a married couple. The whole day is filled with the story of this couple and who they choose to have around them. The venue, the table settings, even the DJ all play a part in that story. This is why figuring out your story is so important. It can make planning the wedding even easier. You can find vendors that will fit into your story. Even choosing the food becomes easier when you find your story.

The hard part of wedding stories is that it is a combination of two personalities into one story. Each person has their own story. Along the timeline of their story, they find another person who also has their own story. Now they take those two stories and hold them together with the glue of love. As we find that story, we do it with another person by our side. We find what makes the two of us compatible. We find the word through our adventures together. The date at an Italian restaurant can be a story. The trip to Cancun is a story. Even the boring stuff can be a story. Take all of these things into effect when creating your story.

Telling Others Your Story

Next comes the hardest part of finding your story, telling it to others. Believe us when we say that telling people your own story can be hard. It can feel a combination of arrogant, embarrassing, and personal. How does one get past those feelings? It can be difficult, but each and every time you do it, it gets easier. The arrogance goes away once you start to entertain people. The embarrassment too. But that path to getting to entertaining can be hard. That’s where you can get other people to help. We are going to plug 2211 here. You knew it would happen.

We are experts in storytelling, especially through a lens. Davis makes films in his free time. Hannah takes beautiful landscape photography in efforts to preserve nature. We tell stories all the time and ones that aren’t our own. We have a knack for telling a story and we know how to make it good and entertaining. We also love to help people find their story. We know that you want to tell your story and we want to tell it, so look at our packages and hit us up today. We are just waiting to tell your story.

Ending Thoughts

You have a story and it deserves to be told. You can figure it out. You can write it down, work with your partner to discover what it means, or simply just think about it more and more. In the end, your story is so uniquely you. You need to tell your story, especially on your wedding day. We at 2211 Media can help. So, if you are looking for your story to be told, check out our packages and tell your story the best way you can.

5 Ways to avoid a fight between your videographer and photographer

5 Ways to avoid a fight between your videographer and photographer

Each wedding website has an explanation of problems that could happen. Here’s one. Here’s another. We won’t regale you with every problem that could happen, but we will answer this one question for you. What if my photographer and videographer get into a fight? On your big day, you don’t want to have to babysit two artists as they complain about one another getting into their shots. They both want you to sing their praises, but when they get in each other’s way, we lose that. Here’s our 5 ways to avoid a fight between your videographer and photographer.

Personality Tests

Your photographer and videographer will likely have some big personalities. They are artists who have to constantly self-promote. Because of that, they may have personalities that are not compatible. Websites like e-Harmony and OKCupid have been utilizing personality tests to match people for years and they have yielded some major results. You may not have the algorithms they have, but you can make your own. Find out their likes and dislikes. Test them on their happiness and other emotions. Have them write an essay about their perfect day. Compare the two and see if you have a match and an avoidance of a nasty vendor fight on your wedding day.

Pro-Tip: If you run out of time and don’t have the ability to perform these tests, or you’re just looking for something easier, have them tell you their zodiac signs. We know that a Taurus will never get along with a Leo and so forth. This can be an easy way to get this done quickly and doesn’t include an essay.

Zodiac Signs
We won’t tell you which one is the best, but Pisces and Libra look pretty good.

Hire a Mediator

Mediators have been through some of the worst fights and have come out of it with so much experience. Experience that will help your vendors avoid a fight. They’ve really been through the worst of humanity, so getting in each other’s shots will be nothing for them. This, of course, will force you to need to schedule another vendor for your wedding day, but this one might be good. They will be able to help you along the way with more than just your photographer and videographer. Fights between the DJ and the caterer solved! No more bridesmaid squabbles. It almost feels like more weddings should have a mediator present. Or maybe that’s what the wedding planner is?

Marriage Story
They probably didn’t follow the 5 ways to avoid a fight between your videographer and photographer.

Have them Meet Beforehand

You will always have a chance to meet with your photographer and videographer before your wedding. If you aren’t, then you have a whole other problem on your hands. Why not try to schedule them both for the same date? That way they both can meet, and you can get them to talk like some sort of matchmaker for vendors. The three of you, or possibly more, can chat over a drink and appetizers. Of course, you will need to coordinate schedules, and if they don’t work out, you will likely have to pick one and if the movie Sophie’s Choice taught us anything, it’s that choices can be hard, although this choice is much easier than hers.

Find Cordial People You Agree With

One of the most difficult parts of any wedding is finding people that are compatible with you. You want a photographer that will not only understand your family but take photos that highlight their personalities. You want a videographer with a cinematic eye, but who also gets your story. These are the things to look for and can be incredibly hard when it comes to booking a vendor. To get both of these things can be darn near impossible. But if you are able to secure these two people and they are incredibly compatible with you and your partner, then it is likely that they will be compatible with each other. Do this task and you won’t have to worry. Although you might have to worry about them falling in love or something while at your wedding. And there’s nothing worse than an unplanned engagement at your wedding.

Hire a company that has both

Most companies are comprised of people that barely know each other but have likely been able to work together to at least make it through the day. Some companies have problems, but that’s where HR comes in. Even easier than those companies are teams of people that come together to make something great. We’ve seen these models work with companies like Google and Apple. They took people that work well together and had them make something. We at 2211 Media have done the same thing. Hannah and Davis have gotten together, first in love, then secondly as a business. We have tested our relationship and know that our fights will not happen on your wedding day. We plan together to ensure we both get the best shots. Cordially, we talk with each other to know what’s going on. Heck, we even know what love feels like and can guarantee we capture it well. All without even an inkling of a fight.

Look how cute we are together!

Conclusion

All in all, the wedding day is a stressful day for everyone, even the vendors. There’s a lot riding on this day and it’s important to do everything right, so you can look back on the day and smile. Look at your photographs that show your love. Watch the video and show it off to your friends. You want it all to be perfect and a fight is definitely going to get in the way. Follows these 5 ways to avoid a fight between your videographer and photographer and this will happen. We especially like tip #5.

Why You Need Videography on Your Wedding Day

Groom holding Bride's Dress

We all know the old wedding videos. A camera with a mic tethered to it. The videographer would go table by table asking people to say something nice to the couple. The video would look jerky, the sayings would all be the same, and the people were almost unrecognizable. A lot of times it was just your uncle who had the camera. Because of these events, a lot of people have shunned videography from their weddings in either attempts to save money or because they don’t see the benefit. Well, we’re here to tell you why you need videography on your wedding day.

Why You Need Videography on Your Wedding Day

The talk of the town

When was the last time that a friend sent you a video they thought was great? For a lot of us, it was very recently. Nowadays, video has become an incredibly accessible medium, much easier than the days of the VCR. Because of this, the video of your wedding is a must. People pass around YouTube clips and TikToks faster than a VCR could rewind a tape. And each of us can hold that technology in our pocket. Once again, another downside to the VCR. No portability. If you want people to see your wedding, see how beautiful it is, you not only want videography, but you need it. If you still need convincing, here’s an article of people praising why you need videography for your wedding day.

Dominique and Anthony let us know that the video was their favorite part of their wedding day.

All the platforms for videos

Video ha become more a part of the internet than we could have ever imagined even just 10 years ago. Everyone has a Facebook page with video capability. YouTube, Instagram, Vimeo, TikTok, even Snapchat. Almost 5 billion YouTube videos are watched daily. You don’t want to be left in the dust when it comes to your wedding day. People will be able to see your video on one of the many platforms you have on your phone. You can make your enemies jealous. Make you friends inspired for their own wedding days. Even make total strangers realize just what they need to put on the perfect wedding day. Your video can do all of that.

My big fat Greek wedding and why you need videography on your wedding day.
Watch this to see why you need videography on your wedding day.

Movies

The Oscars are coming up soon. We wrote this article before the nominations, but it will be posted afterwards, so we’re guessing that some really good movies made the cut. Or at least we’re hoping. For those reading in the future, the Golden Globes of 2020 missed the mark with not nominating any women led movies for best pictures (but we digress). We know that movies surround us and are a large part of our culture. Everyone has multiple streaming apps that each have thousands of movies and TV shows on them. If you want to openly go against the culture we live in today, a video is not necessary. We as a culture just understand this medium, so to skip it is to skip out on your friends and family being able to openly enjoy your love for more than just your wedding day.

Memories

Let’s not forget about you in this article, as well. Very few people have a perfect memory. We’ve seen videos of the World Memory Championships and have been absolutely astounded. We know we can’t do that, but you still want to remember one of the best days of your life. All the emotions of the day. Every event that happened that will make you laugh, cry, and experience it all over again. Video does this for us. The events held in pristine beauty, remembered better than your mind has the ability to remember. You need not worry all day of your wedding about ensuring you remember everything. There are way too many things going on. Let the video do the remembering for you. Have the day to live in the present while the video allows future you to live in the past.

Overall

Ferris Bueller said it best. “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Don’t miss anything on your wedding day. Live in the present. Celebrate your love. And let us capture it for you. We love to tell stories and your story is exactly the one we want to tell. Book us now, or risk forgetting your own story on the honeymoon.

7 Reasons Why You Should Consider a Winter Wedding in Minnesota

7 Reasons Why You Should Consider a Winter Wedding in Minnesota

Winter is in full swing now and it will be until at least April. With winter being such a big part of this harsh state that we live in, we wanted to come up with ways you can make it better. We know all the lists of great winter activities. In fact, Davis likes the Winter Olympics more than the summer ones, but that’s because he came from basically Canada (Fargo). So, in spite of a snowball fights between the groom side and the bride side, or having Parson Brown the snowman marrying you later, we’ve devised this list. Here’s 7 reasons why you should consider a winter wedding in Minnesota.

Cold = No Sweat

One of the worst things that can happen to a person on their wedding day is pit stains. With all the layers we wear and the 100+ degree days of July and August, these faux pas can be almost impossible to avoid. Instead of buying more deodorant than a criminal about to take a lie detector test, do your wedding in the middle of winter. The cold of winter in Minnesota has very few upsides, but not sweating is definitely one of them.

Ted Striker Sweating
This won’t be you, because you followed these 7 Reasons to Consider a Winter Wedding in Minnesota.

The layers will help to keep you warm and you can use them to add more nuance to your outfits. Those hand warmers that fancy people wear can be a great accessory (I’m being told they are called muffs). Go ahead and add layers, because if you need a cool down you simply will have to crack a window in the reception hall or church. Sweating has ruined weddings. From the hair being messed up, to the groom looking like he went to the dance floor before the ceremony, to the endless pit stains. Winter weddings will relieve that part of your worries.

Fur Muff
Now you know what a muff is. You’re welcome.

Cheaper

Hannah and I are having our wedding in the middle of December and the savings we got on the venue alone made it worth it. A lot of venues need something to fill their spots in the winter months. Because of that, they have drastically lowered their prices. A lot of couples have a location in mind right when the engagement ring slide onto the finger. Those locations can be packed from April to November, but they tend to have availability in the winter. This is a secret that we discovered and are telling you now. The price tags of venues can cause such a sticker shock that Las Vegas chapels start to sound enticing. Instead, have the wedding of your dreams with the price of your dreams, as well.

Snow!

You’ve seen it on your Facebook and Instagram feeds after a friend of yours gets married. The greenery and trees that surround couples on their big days. The green can be such a beautiful backdrop for photos and video, but has also been done before. The snow can add for a whole new backdrop. Snow falling is even prettier, but it’s hard to plan the weather in the way you want it. A lot of weddings have black as a primary color. Snow is a beautiful contrast to that and can really make any darker color you have pop even harder. Plus you don’t have to worry about your wedding being outdoors or indoors. Snow is really a negative a lot of times in Minnesota, but here’s at least one positive outside of snow days.

Snowy Day
Now that just looks like a wedding day to us!

Unique

Hinted at in the last paragraph, but hitting it harder here. A lot of weddings have looked the same from 1945 to 2020. Not a lot of variety and the pictures and videos tend to show that. There are billions of people on this earth, each with their own personality. When two individual personalities come together, they make their own personalities as a couple. For all these weddings to look the same shows that people don’t try to make things fit their personalities. They simply just do what everyone else does. While winter may not exactly show off your personality, we know your warmer than that, it will be a way to show off where you come from. Minnesota people are caring, a little passive aggressive, and can really make it through anything once they have a few winters under their belts.

Family Holidays

Families get together over the holidays. Sometimes a family member can’t make it and it’s hard to not have them there. Your cousin that you haven’t seen for a while has to miss their fourth Christmas in a row, because they are going to their SO’s Christmas. With a wedding happening around a holiday, all of this can be avoided. Your family members want to be around you to celebrate your love. Now they have a reason to not only come to your wedding, but also not miss your family’s holiday plans. It’s a win-win.

If you’re lucky, they place may already be decorated! Another win!

Break it Up

Friends are family members that we get to choose. We love to have them around and we want them all to be at our wedding. You also want to be able to celebrate your friends’ weddings and with planning and limited space available at certain venues, it can be almost impossible to not schedule your day on your friend’s day. By planning a winter wedding, you ensure that no one will have the excuse of missing your wedding for a different wedding. And you’ll be able to make all of your friends’ weddings that didn’t read this article and stuck with a summer/fall wedding. Also, you get a break between your wedding and the next one of your friends, so you get to be the newly weds for longer in your friend group.

Minnesota

That’s one beautiful state right there.

Minnesota is a beautiful place. The parks and lakes just in Minneapolis are gorgeous on their own and they pale in comparison to the lakes in the north along with all its animals and nature. We are as big a part of Minnesota as it is of us. We love to tell out of towners just which little town we came from and just how far that little town is away from a slightly larger town that they may have heard of? No? Well, that’s okay. Minnesota is known for its winters and we are a part of those winters too. To completely skip a 6 month period (Yes, winters last that long here) we would be skipping a part of ourselves. So go ahead, plan that winter wedding. And when someone asks you why you planned a winter wedding, you send them to this article on 7 reasons why you should consider a winter wedding in Minnesota

NE Minneapolis Stories

We both met here in NE Minneapolis. Davis lived by Good Carma Coffee (good coffee and even better people) and Hannah by Holy Land (Mediterranean food to die for). We both love this area and want to tell its story. Central Avenue, the NE turkeys, so many breweries, and some perfect spots for pictures and videos. Let’s walk through NE Minneapolis stories and culture and find out what it has to offer.

Today

According to Meet Minneapolis, “Northeast’s neighborhood can be divided into two main sections: the Arts district and the Riverfront district.” Both riverfront and arts do a great job of describing what you can encounter when you dive into NE Minneapolis and what is has to offer. The Mississippi and all its majestic glory or the arts of many different cultures circling the streets and people of this beautiful neighborhood. These all contribute to the NE Minneapolis Stories that we know and love.

Afton and Caleb NE Minneapolis Stories
Afton and Caleb had us tell their NE Minneapolis Story.

The Landmarks

Most people when they think about NE Minneapolis first jump to the vibrant brewery scene. Indeed, Bauhaus, Fair State, and Insight to name a few. Each of these places has their own stories that fill the taproom and their beer each time we go to get a drink or visit with friends. The Lowry Bridge over the river is sandwiched between a tiki bar known as Psycho Suzi’s and a Ferris Wheel owned by Betty Danger’s. The Stone Arch Bridge (I’m sensing a bridge theme) connects NE Minneapolis to the heart of Minneapolis and is one of the more beautiful spots not just in Minneapolis, but in the midwest. So many parks positioned perfectly between the urban landscape creating gorgeous photo and video spots for any story.

NE Minneapolis Arts District

The culture

Hipsters. Hipsters everywhere. That’s the outsider’s view of NE Minneapolis, and to an extent, they aren’t wrong. The hipsters and their IPA, thrift shops, and bicycle lanes are thriving in NE Minneapolis, but there’s more. Artist’s studios line almost every major street, bringing stories through different media to those who walk through this neighborhood. A market, fair, or expo is happening every weekend, that culminate into the event of the summer, Art-A-Whirl. It’s hard to stay in NE Minneapolis for longer than an hour and not fall in love with all the cultures surrounding you. EspeciallMiy with the food. Central Avenue alone spans the world in the way of restaurants and food. And each has its own story.

Art A whirl
One of the best NE Minneapolis Stories.

What’s your NE Minneapolis Story?

With all of the culture, food, art, and people, it’s hard to find something that bores you here in this part of Minneapolis. Hannah and Davis recently did an engagement session for Afton and Caleb starting in NE Minneapolis and ending in Downtown, walking the whole way. The mixture of urban and nature create such fundamentally different backdrops for any story being told. Each building and Street has its own history. And the nature is vibrant and thriving. And the people are friendly and loving. All the things anyone would need in a living space, photo shoot, or whatever brings you outside. Let us help capture your story in the beautiful neighborhood of NE Minneapolis.

Our Family

We like to work with couples. We find ourselves at home as we get to know you and your unique story. Through that, we have been able to learn, grow, and challenge our own views with each new couple that we meet. Their stories fill us with any and all emotions that one can be filled with. But we never really tell too much about ourselves, because it isn’t our story that is being told in that moment. So, here is our moment to shine. Here is our family and our story.

Davis and Hannah. Our Family.
Davis got Hannah to dance at this wedding.

Hannah and Davis

We both met at this mystical and wonderful place known as Wells Fargo, where we both worked as the ethereal temporary worker. Needless to say, we weren’t the biggest fans of what we did (Document custody for mortgage companies gets pretty boring after more than 1 hour of work) so we connected and talked and eventually we went out. First to a brewery, Fair State in the house, and then to a now defunct Italian restaurant in Edina. And now we have a life together, that includes two cats, an apartment, and a joy for telling stories.

Our Family (Cats)

Our Family (Cats)

Davis moved in with Hannah in June of 2018. 5 days later, 2 little black cats moved in and have terrorized us ever since. Especially because Hannah went on a 5 day camping trip that next weekend, so Davis had to take care of kittens when he had really only had a dog. They survived, no thanks to Davis, and have become some pretty big boys in the process. We went with adopting them from a shelter. We knew that black cats had a stigma that forced them to be one of the under-adopted cats, so we gave it a shot. Fats Domino and Sully appreciated it, we’re sure.

NE MPLS Wedding Venue
This was a beautiful set up for a wedding

Our Family (Passions)

The thing that drew Hannah and Davis together were there passions. Davis had been interested in movies and videos since he was in Middle school, creating some of the most horrible YouTube videos you could ever see. He took that into a Broadcast Journalism degree, because NDSU doesn’t have a film degree, and is now making movies with his friends outside of the movies he makes for our couples. Hannah’s passions started with fashion. She loved to see all the fashion photography that was coming out. She also takes bi-yearly trips to the north and wanted a way to preserve the beautiful lands that memory couldn’t do. She took up photography and the rest is history.

Your Story

Every good story needs perspective. Hannah and Davis have lived some pretty perspective filled lives that allow them to get into anyone’s shoes and show what makes a story tick. Years of creating, reading, and enjoying stories have led us to you. We will tell your story as if you were the director. You’ll be the actor, obviously, but we’ll take care of the rest. Be prepared to cry at your own story like Davis cries at most movies.

About Our Videography

Movies are selling out theaters weekly. We are fascinated with a story up on the big screen. Videography is an extension of that media and your chance for your story to be up on that screen, or at least worthy of it. Davis is our videographer and he has an eye for movies and telling a story in a cinematic way. Here is about our videography.

Davis, Our videography guy

Why do videography?

The weddings we have shot have been ones that were at first hesitant to take on videography. They weren’t sure if it was going to be worth it. They have since changed their mind with one bride telling us how the video was their favorite part of the wedding. We are subject to movies and TV every day. It’s only natural that this is the way we like our stories to be told. Therefore, videography is our best chance at that.

Silhouetter urban engagement session

Engagement Trailer

Every good story has a trailer beforehand. We recently created a wedding trailer for a couple. We created an action movie trailer that not only showed the date of their wedding, but showed off who they were as people. The trailer is a great way to get people hyped. Get them ready for the event, and show off your personality and story. Through our videography, we are always looking for unique ways to tell your story and this is one of those ways.

Videography in action

Unique videos

Every weekend, hundreds, or thousands even, of people are getting married. Most of those videos are going to look pretty similar. We don’t like those cookie cutter formulas that are easy to pull off, with all their shortcuts. We get to know you and your story, by sitting down with you, talking with you, and finding your unique story. We customize the experience to how it is going to work for you. Then, you’ll feel your story is worthy of selling out movie theaters.

We love doing wedding photos and videos. It’s an honor to be chosen to tell your story, but sometimes you just need to tell it for yourself. Let us tell you just what goes into telling your story on your big day. Here is DIY wedding photography and videography.

DIY Photography

The things you need:
1. A camera, even the one on your phone.
2. That’s it!
It truly is that simple. You need to get that camera, and now it’s time to think of the shots you are going to be taking.

Lighting

Depending on whether you are doing outdoor or indoor photography, you’ll need to ensure you have the right lighting. The flash on the phone can create red eye and some weird shadows, so make sure that you get some extra lighting set up on the side. Even covering the flash on the iPhone with a semi-opaque screen can assist in making the flash less jarring.

Planning

Plan all the shots ahead of time. That way you can ensure you aren’t going to miss any of the important shots. You only have a certain amount of time, so, make sure you schedule your day out accordingly. The grandparents need a shot. The cousins. The dog of the groom. Some best friends. You need to get all of it.

Editing

Finally, once you’ve taken every last shot, you need to go back and edit them so they look nice. Most will be good if you paid attention to the lighting, but you may need to buff some up or darken some depending on what happened. You can get some editing software online for relatively cheap or even free.

Next Up, DIY Videography

All you need is an uncle and a camcorder

A camcorder and an uncle is all they say that you need and they aren’t necessarily wrong. Your uncle can set up his camcorder in the back of the venue and ensure that he has the microphone on. You’ll just get a wide shot of the venue, but that can be more than enough for some people.

Sound

If your uncle also has a microphone or recording device, be sure to talk with the DJ ahead of time and see if he can plug it in to ensure that none of the vows are missed. He can even place it on the lapel of the officiant if he has absolutely no other place to put it. You’ll have to ensure the sound is good, do some claps while it is recording.

Camera Movement

If you do want those close up shots, those cinematic moments, then it’s time to break that camera off the tripod and to let it be free. By doing this, your uncle can make sure to get every moment up and close and may not even need the microphone. He’ll just have to make sure that he doesn’t get in the way of any of the festivities. Nothing is worse than a camera in the way of cutting the cake.

Editing Again

A lot of the footage will likely be fine, but he will need to get to editing a little bit of the mess of footage that he has. He doesn’t want the shot where a cousin smack talked another cousin right by the microphone during a dance. Nor does he want the shots of the sweaty backed usher that was trying his hardest.
